In the movie, Gandalf tells him to keep the ring safe and goes straight to Gondor to search the documents.

Not long after, he returns to Frodo, confirms that it is the One Ring, and begins his journey.

In the original work, the ring is told to be kept, but it does not appear until 17 years later, and Frodo retains the ring during that period.

Thanks to his power, his face doesn’t change like Bilbo, so people around him think it’s strange.
