According to work-related industries, the Fair Trade Commission is dispatching investigators to Coupang’s headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul to conduct an on-site investigation.

It is reported that this investigation is intended to determine whether the complicated cancellation process of ‘Wow Membership’ and the company’s disclaimer clause violated relevant laws.

The Fair Trade Commission is intensively looking into whether Coupang prevented consumers from withdrawing their subscriptions by requiring six steps, including re-entering passwords and repeating questionnaires, to cancel membership, and visually emphasizing the ‘maintain’ button rather than the ‘cancel’ button (dark pattern).

In addition, the Terms of Use stipulate that the company is not responsible for damages caused by illegal access by a third party, etc.
