Choi Seo-won (formerly known as Choi Soon-sil), a key figure in the government corruption scandal, partially won the remand trial for damages filed against former Democratic Party lawmaker Ahn Min-seok.

Seoul Southern District Court Civil Appellate Division 3-2 (Chief Judges Heo Il-seung, Song Seung-woo, and Lee Jong-chae) ruled on the 21st that “the defendant must compensate the plaintiff 20 million won” in the damages claim lawsuit filed by Mr. Choi against former lawmaker Ahn.

The court pointed out, “The defendant did not clearly state the basis for the allegations and cited third-party remarks, but made it seem like he had personally investigated them, contributing to the level of criticism against the plaintiff.”

He added, “Even now that the investigation into the plaintiff has been completed, the connection between the content of the remarks and the plaintiff has not been revealed.”
