After being notified of the decision on the 5th, Telecom decided not to accept the mediation plan after reviewing the law and plans to submit documents expressing its intention to not accept it to the subcommittee within the deadline.
Once mediation is established, it has the same effect as ‘judicial reconciliation’, but if either party refuses, mediation is not established and the case is closed. The applicant must continue the process by filing a separate civil suit in court.
It is said that the background to Telecom’s rejection of the mediation plan was concerns that if all victims apply for mediation under the same conditions and the settlement is established, the compensation amount could reach up to 7 trillion won.
The number of applicants for this mediation is 3,998 (3,267 in 3 group disputes and 731 in individual applications), which accounts for only about 0.02% of the total damage estimate. If this is applied to the total victims of approximately 23 million, the total compensation amounts to approximately 6.9 trillion won.
