During the police investigation, Mr. A was reported to have been unable to consistently explain the circumstances of the accident and stated that “there was no panic at the time.” However, during the investigation, it was confirmed that Mr. A never claimed ‘sudden acceleration’ as the cause of the accident. Previously, fire authorities explained that Mr. A claimed to have suddenly accelerated immediately after the accident, but the police corrected the claim and said that the information had not been confirmed.
Mr. A is said to have claimed that although he suffers from an underlying disease such as ‘moyamoya disease’, a cerebrovascular disease, and is taking treatment medication, “(the disease) has nothing to do with driving and does not interfere with driving at all.” He also claimed, “I have never been told by a doctor or pharmacist to ‘not drive,’” and “I have not had any major symptoms (that would prevent me from driving).”
The main symptom of moyamoya disease is momentary paralysis caused by a stroke.
