Previously, US President Donald Trump urged voters not to elect Mamdani and even supported former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who had long criticized him. Candidate Cuomo had been running as an independent candidate after losing in the Democratic primary.
President Trump said on ‘Truth Social’ on the evening of the 3rd, “Whether I like Cuomo or not, I have no choice now,” and “I have no choice but to vote for him and hope he does a good job.”
“He has the ability, but he is not Mamdani!”
Cuomo, who was once a heavyweight in New York state politics, responded to the incumbent president’s lukewarm support by saying, “He’s not supporting me, he’s opposing Mamdani.”
