It was fun.
It’s a work by director Jack Creger, who directed the 2022 horror film The Barbarian, and I went to see it because I heard a lot of stories about it getting terrible reviews in the US.
In conclusion, it wasn’t scary, but it was interesting.
As shown in the poster, it focuses on the disappearance of 17 children.
It is rare for a horror film to adopt a group drama style in which the story is told from multiple people’s perspectives.
In each chapter, the story progresses by delving into what happened during the story from the perspective of six people: Justin, Archer, Paul, James, Marcus, and Alex.
As each chapter progresses, the questions that arose in the previous chapter are slowly revealed, but new twists are thrown in to keep the story interesting.
At the same time, the biggest question is ‘Why did the children disappear?
However, can this be evaluated as a well-made horror movie?
Of course, there are one or two scary jump scares, gore scenes, and horror elements, but I didn’t think it was that scary. Even considering that I am a person who is very good at watching horror movies, the person next to me, who I presume is the type that cannot watch horror movies, was hardly scared except for two scenes.
If I were to recommend this movie to someone, I would introduce it as a mystery movie with horror elements, not as a horror movie with mystery elements.
Anyway, the bottom line is that it was fun!
As a horror film, it’s mediocre, but as a mystery, it’s really well done, and it fits well as a group drama, so you can definitely enjoy the genre, so if you can see it in a theater, watch it.
It would be okay to use Culture Day!
Will the next one be an art film?
