It has been reported that a Korean college student was tortured to death in Gambodia. The body has not been delivered for more than two months.
The bereaved family members are asking the authorities to quickly release the body:

According to the police and the bereaved family on the 9th, college student A (22) left home during summer vacation last July, saying he would go to an expo held in Cambodia. About a week after going to Cambodia, the family received a call from Mr. A’s mobile phone number. When I received it, a Korean-Chinese person threatened me, saying, “Mr. A had an accident here and was imprisoned,” and “I can release him if I send him 50 million won.”

Mr. A’s family reported this to the Cambodian embassy and police. However, the family was unable to find out where Mr. A was imprisoned, and the blackmailer cut off contact four days later.

Mr. A was eventually found dead on site on August 8th. It was confirmed that the place where Mr. A was imprisoned was near the Bokosan crime complex in Kampot Province, Cambodia.

The embassy and local police said that Mr. A died of a heart attack caused by torture and extreme pain. Mr. A’s body is scheduled to arrive in Korea within this month, taking into account the autopsy and local cremation schedule.

The bereaved family complained, “I can’t sleep because of how painful it must have been to see the death certificate,” and “To not be able to return home even after death and to be left in a freezer in Cambodia is like killing a person twice.”

The police are continuing their investigation into criminal organizations in cooperation with local police.

The number of reported kidnappings of Koreans in Cambodia remained at 10 to 20 per year from 2022 to 2023, but was counted at 220 last year and 330 as of August this year.

The government recently issued a level 2 travel warning (avoid travel) and a special travel advisory for some regions in Cambodia on the 16th of last month as the number of victims of employment fraud and imprisonment of Korean nationals in Cambodia continued to increase.

A level 2 (refrain from traveling) special travel advisory has been issued for Phnom Penh, and a level 2.5 special travel advisory has been issued for Sihanoukville, Bokosan, and Babet.

The number of kidnappings of Koreans revealed as of August this year is over 330. Shouldn’t a travel ban be imposed at this rate?

It seems like the Cambodian government can’t control the Chinese kidnapping of Koreans in Cambodia.
