[Edupress Reporter Jang Jae-hoon] On the 3rd, the Ministry of Personnel Management confirmed and released the 2025 salary table for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school teachers.
This year, salaries for civil servants, including teachers, were increased by 3%. However, in order to boost the morale of civil servants with low seniority, an additional 3.6% was added for civil servants in Grade 9 and No. 1 salary, for a total increase of 6.6%. This principle appears to apply to teachers as well.
According to the 2025 salary table for kindergarten, elementary, and middle school teachers released by the government on the 3rd, teachers with salary level 9 will receive a basic salary of 2,365,500 won starting in January.
This is an increase of 118,100 won from 2,247,400 won in 2024. The government’s standard for an average salary increase for civil servants is 3%, but the level 9 salary, which has low seniority, recorded an increase of 5.25% in one year.
This year’s salary for teachers with salary level 11 was set at 2,408,300 won. It rose by 83,900 won (3.6%) compared to 2024.
Teachers with salary level 21 receive 3,478,900 won per month. It was increased by 101,300 won from 3,377,600 won in 2024.
The salary level 35, a mid-career teacher, is 5,365,800 won. In 2024, you will receive 156,300 won more than 5,209,500 won.
This year’s salary for teachers with the highest salary level of 40 was set at 5,995,800 won. This is an increase of 174,600 won compared to 2024.
Meanwhile, the Korean Federation of Teachers’ Federation expressed regret, saying, “It is encouraging that additional measures to improve the treatment of teachers with less seniority have been prepared,” but “it is far from enough to restore the increasingly poor treatment of teachers, including cuts in real wages.”
He emphasized, “It is urgent to increase teacher compensation by more than 10% considering the inflation rate and to increase teacher allowances, which have been frozen for 24 years.”
