In China, the number of ‘little-known’ human metapneumovirus (HMPV) infections is rapidly increasing.

On the 1st, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced the surveillance status of respiratory infectious diseases across China and said, “Acute respiratory infectious diseases continue to increase, and cases of little-known HMPV infection have increased rapidly, especially in northern China.”

In particular, the number of positive HMPV tests has increased significantly in children and adolescents under the age of 14.

In the United States, human infection with the H5N1 virus avian flu is a problem.

According to the U.S. Centers for Controlled Diseases, 61 people in the U.S. have been infected with the H5N1 virus since April last year, of which 34, more than half, all occurred in California.

Most of the infected people were dairy farm workers, and it was confirmed that the infection was transmitted while slaughtering infected poultry, and the California governor declared a state of emergency.

WHO lists 33 infectious diseases that are likely to spread in the future, and among them, infectious disease scientists believe that avian influenza, caused by the H5N1 virus, will be overwhelmingly likely to spread.

The medical community warns that if the virus from a person infected with H5N1 spreads to others, it will become an uncontrollable ‘flame’.

The Biden administration plans to spend $360 million to fight the virus.
