Summary below

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) was once a powerhouse in the gaming industry with acclaimed titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it’s now undergoing significant changes. Recently, key developers, including the Witcher 3 director, decided to leave CDPR and start a competing game studio.

CD Projekt Red was once known for its immersive storytelling and high-quality game design. But recent internal changes have sparked discontent among the core development team. Many talented people have expressed frustration with a workplace environment that places increasing emphasis on identity politics and stifles creative freedom. As a result, many developers are leaving CDPR to form their own studios, seeking to create an environment better aligned with their creative vision and values.

One of the most notable departures was Konrad Tomaskiewicz, the former director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. His new venture may ultimately become CDPR’s biggest threat, as he forms the Rebel Wolves led by Tomaskiewicz alongside other prominent figures such as The Witcher 3 art director Bartolomie Gawell. They’ve come together to create what they describe as a “AAA dark fantasy RPG” saga utilizing Unreal Engine 5.

Tomaskiewicz ended his tenure at CDPR after allegations of “harassment.” He denied these charges and was eventually found not guilty.

Rebel Wolves placed a very clear accusation against CDPR when commenting on the studio’s creation.

“We decided to create our own studio and operate on our own terms,” the Rebel Wolves official site reads. “The most important thing is that the team always comes first. Happy people make great games. Games that players want and deserve. Yes, it’s that simple.”

Imagine this. Game developers who focus on what players want, not what developers want to see based on their own political agenda…

CDPR recently made a splash by making Ciri the main character of the upcoming The Witcher 4, making her a Witcher. In the lore of the Witcher novels, this is something that is impossible for women. The game’s creative team admitted in a recent interview that they have not spoken with The Witcher writer and producer Andrzej Sapkowski.

The decision was met with anger and backlash from longtime fans who were hoping for another Geralt of Rivia adventure.

summation

– The core developers of Witcher 3 left CDPR and started a new company due to internal politics among PC loyalists.

– Witcher 4 is being made not by the core developers of Witcher 3, but by those who won the internal politics.

– In the original Witcher novel, it is impossible for women to become witchers (that is why they become sorcerers). CDPR’s creative team never discussed this with the original author.

– I became obsessed with my PC.

It’s almost similar to riding a Blizzard Mantech. After all the game fanatics were pushed out due to office politics, kids who don’t have skills but have PCs and good people ideas are not interested in games and put out crappy games as a foil to their previous work in order to convey a message.

It seems like this was predicted from the beginning of the drama when the PC started to creak?

There’s no way the drama team would have made it like that without CDPR’s permission, and even Henry Cavill was so embarrassed by the PC that he quit the show.
