An unconscious soldier in his 20s died 13 days after a military truck accident occurred at an air force base in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province.

Chungju Police Station in North Chungcheong Province announced on the 2nd, “Soldier A, who was being treated in an unconscious state at a hospital in Cheongju, was pronounced dead yesterday.”

As a result, the death toll in this military truck accident increased to two, including one soldier who died that day.

On December 19th last year, at around 6:15 p.m., an accident occurred in the Air Force’s 19th Fighter Wing when a military truck, K311, driven by driver B, collided with a tree next to the road.

The accident occurred while Mr. B was carrying soldiers who had finished dinner and moving to the dormitory.

One of the two people who were thrown out of the cargo compartment and out of the vehicle due to the impact of the accident died, and Mr. A was taken to a hospital in Cheongju in an unconscious state.

Additionally, eight soldiers on the truck suffered minor injuries and returned after receiving treatment at a hospital in downtown Chungju.

It was reported that three people, including Mr. B, were in the driver’s seat of the vehicle at the time, and 12 people were in the cargo compartment.

Immediately after the accident, the police booked Mr. B without detention on charges of professional negligence causing death under the Special Act on Traffic Accidents.

Mr. B stated to the police, “I was driving at 30 to 40 km, but the vehicle pulled to one side and I turned the steering wheel.”
