The Army and Marine Corps are considering replacing blankets and pods that have been used since its inception with cotton blankets and blanket covers.
On the 9th, the Ministry of National Defense is supervised by Lee Young-eun, chairman of the Korean Nutritionist Association, and the second subcommittee on improving the living conditions of soldiers under the Civil, Government and Military Joint Committee! It announced on the 11th that it held a subcommittee below and discussed ways to improve the barracks facility field.”Regarding this, the Ministry of National Defense reported to the subcommittee that it would provide general blankets to each unit of the Army and Marine Corps starting in the second half of this year and introduce them on a trial basis. It is also planning to develop and distribute sleeping bags for four seasons instead of blankets for military chiefs in case of emergency. According to the Ministry of National Defense, all troops used the same type of bedding in the past, but the Air Force has provided commercial beddings to soldiers since 1974 and the Navy since 1999. The Army and Marine Corps have been providing bedding in the form of blankets and artillery that are easy to pack in the military because of the nature of having to leave the garrison and live outdoors in case of emergency. An official from the Ministry of National Defense said, “If the bedding is gradually replaced, the soldiers will grab the blankets and shake off or fold the dust to make the military insignia disappear.”This subcommittee also discussed the old cooking restaurant plan and the improvement of the service conditions of cooks. The Ministry of National Defense plans to increase the number of Army food managers, who are in charge of management of cooking sites, by 81% from 590 to 1,070 and gradually increase the number of Army cooks by 1,000. The increase in the number of Army cooks, which currently has 7,800, will increase the number of cooks from three to five based on the company-level unit of about 250, with about 80 soldiers in charge of 50 servings. The Ministry of National Defense also decided to spend 10 billion won in the second half of the year to introduce and install more than 1,000 latest oven machines at each county’s cooking sites.
