My airport has about 2-3km of flat land on either side of the runway. There are almost 180 people who designed it.

The FAA requires a runway safety zone of at least 1,000 feet beyond the end of the runway. RSA required due to site constraints
If this cannot be achieved, the Engineered Materials Arresting System can be installed as an alternative.
