Let’s take a look at the region and parliament.

Aside from voting, citizens are usually quite passive in participating in local politics and administration.

I think it’s because it’s unfamiliar.

In particular, there are many cases where it is not taught in school and even as adults, they do not know much about it.

If you look at it boldly with a name that is easy and catchy,

~ri (village head) > ~myeon, eup, dong (myeon/eup/dong head) > ~city, county, district (mayor/county head/district head) > province, metropolitan*autonomous city/province (city/provincial governor)

City/county/district council > Provincial, metropolitan*autonomous city/provincial council > National Assembly

Of these, the only thing that is unique is this chapter.

“~ri (head)” is

There are almost all local areas that end in ~ri. Many people have probably heard of “village head.”

The head of the village is selected through a screening process after recommending candidates.

The “village head” himself works hard and goes to the myeon/eup office (center) or county office.

Within the “national budget” supported every year, village heads can collect opinions at village meetings and apply for use according to the procedure.

(e.g. roads, waterways, pollutant treatment facilities, etc.)

There are too many cases where village heads with rural connections are corrupt or don’t know the existence of subsidies and can’t use them, causing villages to become underdeveloped.

Recently, there has been a tendency to push former civil servants who know public administration to become village heads.

If the village head is incompetent or corrupt, the village will fail;;

There are often accusatory videos in Yutuk, such as paving the village head’s road with the support budget or building a cold storage warehouse.

Other than that

Eup, myeon, and dong are the origins of local autonomy (eup, myeon, and dong offices)

The relevant responsible person is appointed.

A basic administrative agency has been established to handle various basic finances, support, and civil complaints.

Cities, counties, and districts can be seen as intermediary stations between local areas and cities and provinces (city hall, county office, district office).

The larger the regional unit, the more authority it has.

The relevant officers are elected.

It’s a regular job in the news every year.

+There is a “Council” composed of members elected through local elections, and political and legal matters are handled collaboratively.

~City/county/district council

You can check your local council by searching.

Province, metropolitan area*autonomous city/province is the last unit (provincial office, etc.)

As it has the largest regional unit, its authority and tasks are detailed, complex, and numerous.

The relevant responsible person is an elected official.

~City/Provincial Council

You can search by .

member of parliament

It is a member of the National Assembly, an elected legislature.

The reason why party members of the National Assembly can be somewhat blocked

Mayor/Governor/City, County, District Chairman

Not only that

City, county, district / city, provincial local council

election results

This is the support of the National Assembly’s “district”.

The more people from your political party sitting there, rather than the approval rating, the more shameless you become.

Local councils are not affected much, so they are less responsive to local public sentiment.
