A man in his 20s who caused a fatal accident while drinking four bottles of soju was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

A man in his 20s who drank four bottles of soju, drove drunk, and hit and killed a sanitation worker in his 30s while he was working was sentenced to heavy punishment. This man was drunk and asleep at a nearby intersection before the accident, and when the police arrived, he ran away and caused the accident.

On the 3rd, Detective Division 5 of the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Court (Chief Judge Ryu Bong-geun) sentenced Mr. A (26), who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (fleeing to death), to 12 years in prison.

Mr. A was handed over to trial on charges of hitting and killing Mr. B (36), a sanitation worker, who was working on a road in Munhwa-dong, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, at approximately 12:53 pm on August 7th.

The court stated the reason for the sentencing, saying, “In order to sound the alarm about drunk driving, which is even criticized as an act of murder, and to eradicate such crimes forever from our society, we have no choice but to punish the defendant severely.”
