Mixed male and female northern cardinal discovered elsewhere

This mixing of male and female parts in one body is relatively common in insects, but it is very rare to be found in birds.

The white to light brown part is the female part.

Professor Peer said, “A hermaphroditic mosaic occurs when an abnormality occurs during cell division. As a result, the egg and its associated polar body (a small cell created during the division of the egg as it matures) are fertilized by separate sperm.” “The individual appears as a mosaic of mixed males and females.”
