The accident occurred around 12pm on August 19th. The person behind the wheel was Mr. A (60s) with 45 years of driving experience.
The black box video showing the front of the vehicle shows the speed of the vehicle slowly going uphill gradually increasing as it goes downhill. Embarrassed, Mr. A made an “oh, oh, oh” sound and drove towards the retaining wall to stop the car. However, due to the increased speed, the vehicle did not stop and soon fell through the grass and into the reservoir.
‘It’s a sudden rush. “You have to put your right side against the wall,” he said, and at the same time, he fell straight into the reservoir channel. Even after getting stuck, I thought, ‘I can’t ride an automatic car. “I said things like ‘I never thought I would be attacked,’ but you can’t hear those words at all in the video, only screaming loudly,” he recalled at the time.
Mr. A was convinced of sudden acceleration.
However, the truth contained in the pedal black box was different. The video shows Mr. A taking his foot off the accelerator pedal after going uphill and before entering the downhill road, then putting it back on. Mr. A stepped on the pedal harder, as if he mistakenly thought he had moved his foot to the brake.
“Despite driving so delicately, surprisingly, I was speechless when I saw that my foot was pressed all the way down on the accelerator pedal. Fortunately, my body was fine. The car was scrapped and treated as an isolated accident,” he said.
