Kaliningrad is one of Russia’s four main fleets as its home port, and is responsible for keeping Northern Europe in check, starting from the Baltic Sea.
During the Cold War, it served as Russia’s frontline unit against Western Europe along with the Northern Fleet in Murmansk.
Just looking at the location, it doesn’t seem like they’ll ever come to Ukraine, so why are they in an emergency right now?
Due to the nature of the Baltic Sea, where the only way out was the Danish Strait between Sweden and Denmark, the Baltic Fleet effectively became a scum trapped in the Baltic Sea.
One of the reasons why the Black Sea Fleet is in disarray right now is because Turkey is enforcing the Strait of Lockage, making it impossible to get out of the Black Sea, let alone supply or replenish.
These people should also repeat that they just died the moment war broke out and Denmark and Sweden closed the strait and deployed anti-ship missile launchers on the island.
Moreover, these guys have gathered elite troops since the Cold War and are also responsible for the enormous task of defending St. Petersburg, so the moment they collapse, Russia will be in emergency mode.
