In mainland Japan, they call it Satsumaimo because the Satsuma clan is said to be good at raising it, but when Korea first brought it from Tsushima, they named it in the dialect Hyojama instead of Satsumaimo.
In a similar case, when Pajeon was taken over by Japan, the name was taken as Jjijim in Gyeongsang Province dialect.
