Kim Min-gi is the ‘godfather of the folk world’ who led Korean youth culture in the 1970s and 1980s with songs such as ‘Morning Dew’ and ‘Evergreen Tree’. Born in 1951 in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do, as the youngest of 10 children, he distinguished himself in various fields of art to the point where he entered the painting department of Seoul National University’s College of Fine Arts in 1969.
Kim Min-ki made a name for himself in the world by releasing his iconic song ‘Morning Dew’ in 1970. In the history of Korean music, there is no song that has suffered as much as ‘Morning Dew.’ This song, which was first designated as a wholesome song, was designated as a banned song two years later under the Yushin regime, and Kim Min-ki was also suppressed. However, Kim Min-gi later became a singer who symbolized the era by creating songs such as ‘Evergreen Tree’ and the song drama ‘Factory Lights’.
