Googi Island is a place where fishing industry was developed in the past. However, along with industrial development, fishing, the primary industry, declined. As businesses such as tourism, passenger transportation, and ship building developed, fishermen lost their place.

The existing residents, who mainly engaged in fishing, had no choice but to abandon the village and move to another place.

The first person to reveal the changed appearance of the village was Chinese photographer Tang Yuhong. He visited Gugi Island and looked around the village where people had disappeared, and was greatly impressed by the village that had returned to nature without any problems, so he took pictures and revealed the amazing appearance of Gugi Island to the world.

Removing people from nature does not mean that their existence disappears.
