Detroit’s starting pitcher Galarraga is on the verge of a perfect game, getting all 27 outs in 9 innings.
However, Jason Donald’s batted ball, which came out as the last batter in the top of the 9th inning, was ruled a hit.
Even looking at the replay video, it was a clear mistake.
Everyone was mesmerized, and even the batter who hit the ball knew something was wrong.
Galarraga didn’t have a perfect game, but he ended up getting a shutout by getting the final 28 outs.
This game went down as one of the most controversial games in Major League history.
Umpire Jim Hoy, who saw first base that day, officially apologized to Galarraga for his error the next day.
However, the perfect game, which will remain as an honor for MLB and individuals, did not return.
