Sergeant “The Last Year of the Army,” who was impressed by the sight of helping his grandmother clean up the waste paper at Yeongdeungpo Station, will receive a commendation from the division commander.
The main character of the online story is Sergeant Lee Seok-gyu, 21, a machine gunner of the 98th Brigade of the Army 32nd Division, who is about to be discharged from the military next month.
The video showed Sergeant Lee, wearing a backpack, approaching and helping fix the waste paper as an old woman’s pile of waste paper piled high on a wheelbarrow was out of balance and about to collapse.
Sergeant Lee said he stopped by a cafe on his way back from vacation and saw his grandmother struggling with the waste paper cleanup. “I ran out and helped because I didn’t think there was anyone around me,” he said. “I just did what I had to do as a soldier who protects the lives and property of the people, but I’m embarrassed to be known.”
In general, the last vacation is scheduled to be discharged one to two days after his return, but Sergeant Lee reportedly returned to the unit on the 6th of this month after partially adjusting his vacation schedule to participate in the last cold weather training.
According to the Army, the unit decided to award a division commander’s commendation at the discharge ceremony of Sergeant Lee, who practiced the military spirit of taking the initiative even during vacation. If you receive the division commander’s commendation, you will be given a reward vacation, but there is no benefit to Sergeant Lee, whose discharge date has already been set.
Sergeant Lee will go on vacation before being discharged from the military after completing the cold weather training on the 13th, and will return on the 1st of next month and be discharged the next day.
