Elegant and caustic Pachinko slides back and forth through the timeline without confusion or complexity. Her cast, as well as Kim Min-ha, who expresses all her emotions, including betrayal, sadness, joy, and trembling, in every little movement she makes, present the best TV performance she remembers recently. Yoon Yeo-jung, who naturally accepts junior actors’ works, is also indispensable.
Netflix may be a few light-years ahead of Korean dramas in terms of quantity, but Apple TV may have gotten the highest score for its latest service. The adaptation of Pachinko is great. It’s a quiet but completely influential show that bothers you for the next few weeks and months.
