Actor Joo Yong-man, who suddenly retired at the peak of his popularity in the 1990s, returns to the screen by confirming his appearance in the occult thriller film ‘The Other Side’, his first acting comeback in about 26 years. He then selected the movie ‘Pihwa’ as his next film, announcing his full-fledged return.

It is said that Joo Yong-man chose ‘The Other Side’ as his comeback work after 26 years and showed off his signature realistic acting at the script reading site. He once again proved his presence as a ‘luxury licorice actor’ with his skills that were not rusty enough to put his long gap in vain. ‘The Other Side’ is an occult thriller that tells the story of aspiring writer Ho-eun (played by Lee Ru-da) and ordinary office worker Seung-yoon (played by Cha Seon-woo) arriving at a pension with a dark secret. Joo Yong-man will play the role of pension owner ‘Yoon Jeong-gu’ and will lead the center of the play.

The occult thriller film ‘Blood Painting’, which was chosen as another next film, is a work that delves into the disappearance, death, and hidden secrets surrounding an unfinished masterpiece to be displayed in the master’s memorial exhibition. Joo Yong-man plays a character who is the dean of an art school and teaches art history, and plans to add depth to the play through a character who pursues practicality rather than justice and justification rather than truth.

Joo Yong-man, who received much love through a number of hit films and commercials, including the 1990s drama ‘General Hospital’, is making a full-fledged return to the screen through this work. Last year, a video of his current status shared through the YouTube channel ‘Recent Olympics’ garnered 470,000 views and became a hot topic.

With his unwavering wit and pleasant manners, Joo Yong-man said, “The drama ‘General Hospital’ received five or six commercials in just four episodes, and a total of nearly twenty were filmed. “I took some money back then,” he said honestly, drawing laughter.

He also cited longing for his family amidst his busy filming schedule as the reason he decided to retire during his prime, and confessed, “Even after I quit, I kept getting calls for casting for two years.” He was even more surprised by the news that his daughter, now in her 30s, had graduated from law school.
