Trump captures the president of a sovereign country… The ‘era of rogue superpowers’ begins in earnest [US attack on Venezuela]

There are concerns that President Trump’s latest attack on Venezuela could be a signal of the ‘era of rogue superpowers’ in which the United States, China, and Russia begin in earnest to strengthen their control over their respective spheres of influence. ‘Rogue state’, a term frequently used by the United States, refers to a country that violates international law and threatens world peace. The Trump administration violated the United Nations Charter, which prohibits invasion of sovereign states, and did not even notify the U.S. Congress of military operations in advance. It is a declaration that we will no longer be bound by international law and the rules-based order, and a declaration of an era in which ‘strength is justice,’ where military power is the final guarantee of sovereignty.

New Statesman, a British current affairs weekly, pointed out, “Russian supporters of Vladimir Putin will ask what difference there is between President Trump’s actions between Russia removing an unfriendly government in its sphere of influence or even capturing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and putting him on trial in Moscow.” He went on to point out, “The Trump Doctrine could justify Chinese President Xi Jinping viewing Taiwanese President Lai Ching-de as a dangerous separatist and taking military action to protect his country’s interests in China’s ‘backyard.’” He warned, “Denmark and Greenland must take Trump’s remarks (about annexing Greenland) seriously and urgently.”

Trump has already given a signal to take care of things in his own territory.

It would be foolish to interpret this as a warning to China.

Trump officially declared that the gangster countries of the United States, China, and Russia should take care of themselves within their own territory.
