Caused a large-scale personal information leak
Coupang sent two foreigners who cannot speak Korean to the National Assembly hearing.
Chairman Kim Beom-seok and CEO Park Dae-jun, who was in charge at the time of the accident, were not present, and two foreign executives showed up.
The National Assembly Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee held a hearing on Coupang’s large-scale personal information leak at 10 a.m. on the 17th.
Initially, the National Assembly requested the attendance of CEO Kim Beom-seok and former Coupang CEO Park Dae-jun, who recently resigned due to this accident, but they all failed to attend.
Instead, two foreigners came out.
They were CEO Harold Rogers and Brett Mattis, CISO (Chief Information Security Officer).
However, Coupang revealed from the beginning of the hearing that they could not speak Korean at all.
When Choi Min-hee, chairman of the National Security Committee, asked, “Can you confirm how much Korean these people speak?” the interpreter sitting next to these foreigners said,
“”(CEO Harold Rogers) doesn’t speak Korean at all. “I say ‘hello’” and “I understand that you do not understand Korean when it comes to specific discussions in the National Assembly.”

He said.
Other ruling and opposition party lawmakers also protested, saying, “Asking questions to foreigners is a waste of time.”
