Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it has arrested Mr. A as a felon on charges of attempted quasi-robbery and is investigating.
Mr. A is accused of trying to steal 22 gold bars weighing 10 grams each and gold worth 160 million won from Mr. B, a gold and silver store owner whom he met through a second-hand trading site on the street in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung City, at around 6:50 p.m. on the 24th.
Mr. A was immediately caught by Mr. B at the scene and handed over to the police officer who was dispatched after receiving a citizen report. It is reported that Mr. B was assaulted in the face with a fist while arresting Mr. A as a red-handed criminal.
It was discovered that Mr. A, who was taking a leave of absence from the university he was attending, planned the crime after reading a gold bar sale posted by Mr. B on a second-hand trading site.
Mr. A stated to the police, “I was confident in running, so I thought I wouldn’t be able to catch him if he stole the item and ran away.”
The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant as soon as the investigation into Mr. A is completed.
