Major memory manufacturers such as Micron, SK Hynix, and Samsung Electronics are investing $54 billion in facilities this year, but most of this is focused on developing HBM chips for AI accelerators. In other words, although investment in the DRAM sector increased by 14% compared to the previous year, there is no actual increase in production, and supply is likely to decrease as the DRAM production line has begun to be converted to the HBM production line.
Also, the industry forecast is that the expansion of production facilities will not occur in 2023 due to overproduction and inventory depletion at the level of dumping sales.
