The Korea Arboretum and Garden Management Center announced that ‘Hancheong’, a Baekdu mountain tiger at the National Baekdudaegan Arboretum, passed away in the early morning of the 6th.
Han Cheong is a 20-year-old female tiger, the oldest in Korea, who has lived in the tiger forest for eight years. It was born at Seoul Grand Park on May 8, 2005, and was moved to the National Baekdudaegan Arboretum on June 29, 2017.
He has been showing signs of aging, such as tremors in both front feet, for several years now, and his activity level and appetite have decreased noticeably since last May. His breathing became somewhat unstable on the 4th, and he died at 0:22 that day.
Lee Gyu-myeong, director of the National Baekdudaegan Arboretum, said, “We plan to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, and we plan to handle it in accordance with relevant laws.”
He explained, “”The five Baekdu tigers managed by Tiger Forest, including Uri, Mugung, Taebeom, Han, and Do, have been confirmed to be healthy.”
