Why Titanic survivors suffered from so much guilt

Immediately after the Titanic, many of the lifeboats still had plenty of seats left, even though they were less than half capacity, but people hesitated to return to the scene for fear that the boats would capsize or be pulled down by the large number of people in the sea.

Accordingly, some passengers and crew on the boat suggested to others to return to the scene and rescue the people, but this was ultimately ignored. The only thing that happened was that a nearby boat rescued 13 swimmers.

The sounds of over a thousand people screaming for help traumatized the people on the boat, and these sounds gradually turned into silence as people froze to death.

In the end, as things got quieter, the 5th mate couldn’t stand it any longer and only one boat returned to the scene and rescued the 5 people who were on the verge of death.
