School-safe fonts refer to fonts that can be freely used in educational settings without copyright burden. Starting in 2022, the Ministry of Education and KERIS will hold an annual contest to select and distribute fonts with high demand in schools among fonts produced by domestic professional companies as school safe fonts.
The school safe fonts distributed over the past three years are 67 types in 44 fonts. Considering the new fonts distributed this year, the total number increases to 88 types of 65 fonts.
The newly distributed font is a design typeface that can be used in a variety of ways. The Ministry of Education expects that it will be used in many ways, including producing school class materials, home communications, class newsletters, and school event notices.
Anyone can download and use the school safe font for free from the Education Copyright Support Center website. The website also provides ‘School Safety Templates’ (12 PPTs and 7 posters) created using school safety fonts, allowing schools to easily create notices and classroom posting materials without the burden of copyright.
