In the end, the terrified victim transferred a total of 9,793,000 won three times. Mr. A was charged with blackmail. Under criminal law, the crime of extortion is committed when a person gains financial gain by threatening a person, and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.

The first trial court pointed out that there was a high possibility of blame, saying, “Mr. A committed the crime while on probation.”

However, considering that “most of the extorted money was returned to the victim and that the defendant acknowledged the crime and reflected on his actions,” a suspended prison sentence was sentenced. The court stated the reason for the sentence, saying, “The sentence was determined by comprehensively considering the degree of blackmail and the amount of extortion.”
