The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office announced on the 21st, “The joint investigation team led by the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Department has been changed to be directly led by the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office.”
A prosecution official explained, “This change was made in line with this personnel change at the high prosecutors’ level to ensure quick decision-making and fairness in the investigation.”
The gist of this suspicion, raised by Inspector Baek Hae-ryong, who was head of the criminal division at Yeongdeungpo Police Station, is that Incheon Customs officials were involved in drug smuggling, and that the President’s Office and high-ranking officers of the police and Korea Customs Service exerted external pressure on the investigation to uncover this.
As controversy continued in the police investigation, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office formed a joint investigation team with the police and the National Tax Service in June, but Chief Inspector Baek expressed distrust, saying it was a ‘self-investigation’.
But prosecutor Lim Eun-jung was in charge of directing this.
They say there is no right to personnel matters, and there are rumors that the prosecutors who covered up this case are now involved.
Aren’t the same prosecutors who covered that up in the existing Joint Investigation Headquarters?
If this is true, then they are just trying to make Prosecutor Lim Eun-jung fruitless and frame her as incompetent and throw her out.
