Egg weight division is changed to English notation. Currently, what is marked with kings, specials, large, middle, and turmoil is changed to an internationally used way from 2XL (XXL) to Small (S).

In the meantime, consumers have been confused about which eggs are bigger. In the egg shell, the actual rating is printed instead of the sign that the word ‘judgment’ was written as before. This is included in the ‘Livestock Distribution Structure Improvement Plan’ (tentative name), which is scheduled to be announced in October.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 22nd, the improvement of the ‘egg rating determination’ is underway. Egg grade determination is divided into two criteria: △ quality grade △ weight standard.

Quality grade is classified into three types: 1+, 1 grade and 2 grade. The rating determination evaluates the size, the shell state, the freshness, and the condition of the yolk and whites. The weight standard is divided into five stages of royal, special, large, middle, and turmoil. Until now, the quality rating and weight specifications were displayed on the outer packaging, and only the words ‘judgment’ were printed on the egg shell.

In the future, the weight standard will be changed to XXL, XL ,l, M, and S. This is to avoid confusing which of the ranges, specials, and turmoil from the consumer point of view. In the shell, 1+, 1, and 2 grades are printed instead of ‘judgment’. Leading dates, farmers’ unique numbers, and breeding environment numbers are displayed as before. The egg grade determination system is reorganized in 21 years since it was introduced in 2004.
