On September 22, 1983, at approximately 9:33 p.m., a bombing occurred at the American Cultural Center in Samdeok-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu. It was not long after the arson incident at the American Cultural Center in Gwangju (1980) and the arson incident at the American Cultural Center in Busan (1982).

The government’s investigation also revealed that the explosives and batteries used in the cultural center attack were North Korean products. The real culprit was Lee Cheol, an agent from the North Korean Workers’ Party’s liaison department, who returned to North Korea after the terrorist attack and received a medal.

The tortured college students are now adults.
Their innocent crimes were recognized in 2019.
