German reaction: the shocking truth about beef tongue

When I served gyutan (beef tongue dish) to a friendly German who wanted to try Japanese yakiniku, he looked disgusted.

He points out and explains what makes the criticism unpleasant, but isn’t it rude to do that during a meal?
