Violence is poisonous and destructive in any form. My behavior at the Academy Awards last night was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes about me are part of my job, but Jada’s jokes about his medical condition were too much, and I responded emotionally.
I want to apologize to Chris openly. I crossed the line and it’s my fault. I was ashamed of myself, and the actions I took were not the actions of the people I wanted to be, and violence had no place in a world of love and kindness.
I apologize to the Academy and award show producers and attendees and viewers from all over the world.
I also apologize to the Williams family and the King Richard family. I’m worried that it would have been a beautiful journey for us, but it might have been stained by my actions.
I’m still in the process of developing and getting better.
