As an officer in the Information Operations Staff Office of the unit under the direct control of the Marine Corps.

Responsible for interpreting and translating foreign intelligence during joint ROK-US operations

39 months of military service begins… Discharged on December 1, 2028

Second Lieutenant Lee Ji-ho, the eldest son of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong (005930), is assigned to the Information Operations Staff Office within the Navy’s 5th Mine Landing Squadron and performs his formal duties as an interpreter officer in his mandatory military service. In this unit, which is known for its many joint operations with foreign troops, this second lieutenant will be responsible for interpreting communication between commanders and translating information.

According to the Navy on the 11th, this second lieutenant was recently assigned to the Navy’s 5th Mine Landing Squadron. The 5th Mine Landing Battle Group is a core battle group under the direct control of the Naval Operations Command and, as its name suggests, specializes in conducting mine warfare and landing warfare. Mine warfare is an operation that utilizes mines, which are mines in the sea, to disrupt the activities of enemy ships or, conversely, to remove mines installed by the enemy and secure the routes of the friendly fleet.

Amphibious warfare is a highly advanced three-dimensional operation that deploys landing forces, such as marines mounted on ships or aircraft, from the sea to land. Among the naval battle groups, this is the only place with a ‘mine landing’ tag, and it is considered a unit that frequently engages in joint operations with foreign forces such as the U.S. military.

This second lieutenant will begin his full-fledged duties as an interpreter in the Information Operations Staff Office, known as the brain of the unit. The main mission is to interpret real-time communication and tactical discussions between commanders in the process of planning and carrying out joint training with foreign forces such as the U.S. Navy. In addition, it is expected that they will be responsible for translating and reporting on intelligence and technical data obtained from overseas and interpreting protocols for key foreign military personnel.
