Trump rejects Machado and ‘woos’ Rodriguez

Instead, Trump named Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who is directly below President Maduro, and explained that he intends to actively cooperate with ‘what the United States is trying to do in Venezuela’ and that he has already completed conversations with Secretary of State Rubio.

Vice President Rodriguez, who is expected to replace Machado as a member of the Venezuelan ruling group, is a 53-year-old woman and a follower of former President Hugo Chavez, Maduro’s ‘master’. Rodriguez, a hard-core Chavista who stood opposite Machado, was selected as the U.S. helper in remaking Venezuela.

President Trump may have judged that Rodriguez would be a more comfortable opponent than Machado since the United States can freely develop Venezuelan oil and American oil companies are leading the way.

Rodriguez is said to be a more convenient partner than Machado for Trump’s United States to exploit Venezuelan oil.
