This year, Korean movies flopped and Japanese movies were huge successes.

.

Dramas are definitely more popular in Korea than in Japan (OTT has a big influence), but the reality seems to be that movies are clearly lagging behind. People also complain that new material and new actors are hard to see, and the production environment is such that stars are expensive.

Increasingly, the Korean entertainment industry is focused on OTT, which can make a lot of money, and theaters do not make it easy to film because audiences are hesitant due to ticket prices.

Let’s see if Korean movies will rebound next year.

Humint, directed by Ryu Seung-wan

Director Na Hong-jin’s Hope is said to be a highly anticipated film.

There was no choice as it was not a hit in Korea.

It remains to be seen whether the Golden Globes and Academy Awards will be awarded.

(There is no choice but to enter the Golden Globes as a finalist, and the awards ceremony will be held in early January. The Academy Awards will be held in March, and it will be decided next month whether There is no choice but to be included as a finalist for the Best Foreign Language Film Award.)

Of course, you can be proud if you receive it, but is this the extent of it for the audience who has already seen it?

The film National Treasure, made by a Korean resident in Japan, is said to be a masterpiece comparable to China’s Farewell My Concubine. Is it something of a criticism of Kabuki culture?

And animation was truly the biggest hit this year.

Korean movies that are truly inferior to American and Japanese animations

Moreover, in our country, it is extremely difficult to create anime fans in the first place, so it is better that the content has been revived.

Japan is an animation paradise, and the visual beauty is different.

Our film industry itself seems to be in crisis since the coronavirus outbreak, so we cannot be satisfied with just Kadehun.

It seems difficult to make a movie that will attract 10 million viewers unless it is a movie with the same impact as Spring in Seoul or an action movie guaranteed to be a box office hit like the Crime City or Veteran series.

There is no answer as all the popular scenarios have gone to OTT.

There is no guarantee that all works by famous directors will be successful.

Some people may ask why I watch so much Japanese stuff, but

Boycotts are never easy in the game, drama, movie, and music industries.

Even if you dislike China or Japan, you still enjoy the content they create, and even if there are political and diplomatic conflicts, the industry has hardly suffered any damage as long as they do not import anything (Chinese games, Japanese animations, games).

Even those in neighboring countries who dislike our country consistently consume our dramas and idols.

Cultural content does not respect borders.

If Korean movies are to be revived, the industry as a whole needs to completely transform, create something interesting, and keep movie ticket prices within 10,000 won or in the low range.

It is a mistake to create an era where you have to spend up to 40,000 won to even eat a popcorn set.
